Newsletter 2022-’23
Summer holidays have come to an end and our school Eklavya Balwadi & Vidyalaya reopened on June 1, 2023. We had a successful academic year 2022-23 with a total of 96 enrolled students. We are expecting a 30% increase in enrollment as the children who have gone back to the villages during the lockdown may be returning to re-enroll for the next academic year.
For the last thirty four years, we have been running our school in six rooms of a building in Anand Nagar slums in Oshiwara, Mumbai without any problems. The rooms and space were donated to us by the original builder. Like many other buildings in Mumbai, the building that houses our school is going for redevelopment, and we have been informed that our registration papers are valid for just one room of the school, while the other rooms were lent to us to run the school during the school hours. This was never anticipated and after many hours of discussion with the new builders and our board, we now intend on buying at least three rooms from the new builder. We hope to raise the funds for this with the help of corporate companies, our supporters, sponsors and the public. We have been informed that the redevelopment has been stalled for a year or so, this should give us some time to finalize the plan and fundraise to purchase three new rooms in the building. So for the time being, our school will be functioning as usual.
Some pictures from our school events.
Gurupurnima was being celebrated at the school on July 3, and the students enjoyed a full lunch provided by the Jeevanpushp Trust
We Distributed textbooks and notebooks at school in June. Inner Wheel and Rotary joined our teachers and helped distribute popcorn packets and chocolate filled buns to the students.
On behalf of all students, teachers and trustees we express our heartfelt gratitude for helping further our cause of education for the underprivileged. The school has been able to make a huge difference in the lives of the underprivileged and brought about a positive change in the lives of students and teachers. We hope you will renew the sponsorship for your student in the coming year.
