EKALAVYA BALWADI and VIDYALAYA is a school for the underprivileged -funded and managed by the Jeevanpushp Trust. It is located in Anand Nagar slums in Oshiwara, Mumbai.
The school was founded over thirty years ago with just six students. It has increased to over one hundred students today with classes up to tenth grade. The school has grown from one room to a concrete structure with six class rooms.
The school runs classes for children from Kindergarten – 10th standard . A team of 11 teachers and dedicated volunteers work together to provide quality education for the children and encourage their all round development. Hindi is medium of instruction, and English is taught as a special language. The students graduate on passing the National Institute of Open Schooling Board Exams for 1oth standard.
The school provides uniforms, books, school bags, footwear and stationary and nutritious snacks for its students free of cost and has made visible changes in these children’s lives. Students also get trained in computer skills and get free medical services if needed. Many of these children would otherwise be sent to work in local homes and factories.
Our Student volunteers come from other local schools in Mumbai as well as from the USA.
We also provide help to our graduates with college placement and fees on a merit basis. Many of our graduates come back to the school to talk to and inspire current students.
